2023 Tokyo Motor Show: Toyota EPU electric pickup truck concept unveiled

At the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show that opened today, Toyota's EPU electric pickup truck concept car was unveiled. The new car is billed as a five-passenger mid-size pickup truck, but its compact size is close to that of the Ford Maverick.

It is reported that the new car will be built using a next-generation pure electric platform. The overall appearance of the new car is very futuristic, but at the same time, most of the exterior details are very close to the mass-produced style.

In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the new car are 5070*1910*1710 mm, and the wheelbase is 3350 mm. The new car"s overall size is close to that of the popular Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The new car adopts a monocoque structure and a double-row cockpit design. The front part of the truck has a large proportion, which affects the cargo space behind the pickup truck. The overall appearance is more oriented towards daily life, rather than a mature commercial pickup truck.

As for the interior, the shape of the new car"s suspended center console is very special. The stepped layout turns the bottom floor into considerable storage space. The large central control screen and LCD instrument panel adopt a front-to-back superposition style. On the far left side of the large central control screen are buttons for functions such as start button, electronic gear shift, and electronic handbrake. At the same time, the new car uses the same yoke-type steering wheel as the Lexus RZ.

Toyota said the rear seats can be used as beds and can be used flexibly according to preferences and outdoor activity needs. As a monocoque pickup truck, Toyota claims to have lowered the center of gravity, bringing "excellent handling stability and ride comfort."
